Adam T. Smith

Adam Smith is an investor and attorney with over two decades of experience as an investor, board member, and as an executive managing global legal affairs, corporate securities, technology contracting, and mergers and acquisitions. He has served as a board member and advisor to technology companies, including startups and early growth companies, in diverse sectors including cybersecurity, health and telemedicine, SaaS, fintech, AR/VR, and blockchain. He has also been a mentor at Babson's WINLab accelerator since the inception of its Miami program. Adam also serves on the board of the Miami Dade Innovation Authority.

Prior to joining Medina Ventures, Adam was an investor in early-stage software companies, a managing partner of CloudTree Ventures, and served as a Special Advisor to the Technology Practice of the Carlton Fields law firm.

Before his work with Carlton Fields, he was a general partner at Medina Capital, a private equity firm where he was responsible for sourcing potential investment opportunities and providing portfolio companies with strategic advice in business development, product development, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, intellectual property protection, contracting, and all legal issues.

Prior to joining Medina Capital, Adam served as VP & Deputy General Counsel at Verizon and as Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Terremark Worldwide, Inc., a NASDAQ listed leading provider of data center, cybersecurity and IT infrastructure services, where he was responsible for global legal affairs including securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, financings, vendor and customer contracting, and intellectual property as well as providing advice to senior management on a wide range of legal issues relating to Terremark’s products and services. Terremark was acquired by Verizon in 2011 in a transaction valued at almost $2 billion representing a 19x EBITDA multiple and 5x return on equity.

Before joining Terremark, Adam led the electronic commerce and technology law practice for a Miami-based international law firm with a focus on domestic and international corporate transactions, venture capital, and corporate securities for technology clients.

Adam received his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Political Science from Tufts University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law.
